White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders released a statement in response to Jim Acosta’s tussle with a white house intern while questioning president Trump.
In a statement, she wote “President Trump believes in a free press and expects and welcomes tough questions of him and his Administration. We will, however, never tolerate a reporter placing his hands on a young woman just trying to do her job as a White House intern. This conduct is absolutely unacceptable.”
“It is also completely disrespectful to the reporter’s colleagues not to allow them an opportunity to ask a question. President Trump has given the press more access than any President in history. Contrary to CNN’s assertions, there is no greater demonstration of the President’s support for a free press than the event he held today.” She added.
Acosta swiftly responded to Sanders’ claim by writing, “This is a lie.”

A video of the incident reveals that Acosta, as he attempted to ask a followup question to Trump, holding a microphone and the intern approaching him and trying to pass it on. “Pardon me, mam,” Acosta says. He eventually got into a tussle with her, and it shows him grabbing her. She tries to wrest the microphone from him and he eventually gave up the Mic.

This is not the first time Jim Acosta is coming into a confrontation with Trump. President-elect Donald Trump’s during a press conference two years back devolved into a shouting match between himself and CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta. Trump yelled, “You are fake news!” as Acosta tried to press him to answer a question. The exchange was prompted by Trump calling BuzzFeed a “failing pile of garbage.”
